SURGERY ISSUES

Acoustic Nervoma and Help with Surgery

Hello Susan,

Have you heard of an acoustic nervoma? Apparently, it is a tumor like growth on a nerve in ones inner ear. My mom is having surgery to have one removed and there is a very good chance that she is about to lose her hearing, (according to the dr.'s) I think its interesting that she has some friends her age that have experienced the same thing. (she is in her 50's).

I am very curious if there is anything we can do to help nourish her before her surgery (next month) and after.
Thanks and *love*love*love*

Susun's Response: help you in surgery

Tam,
Have not heard of acoustic nervoma, but I am not a disease expert, I am a health expert.

Check out my suggestions for getting through surgery "in one piece" in my book "Breast Cancer? Breast Health!"

Good luck.

Preparation for surgery

Hello Susun,

I just found out I need to have surgery. It is for the repair of a hernia. This is all in all, my third abdominal surgery. What can I do to be as fit as possible for the surgery so that healing proceeds naturally and efficiently.

Thanks
Warmly, Rebecca

Susun's Response: here are a couple ideas

Dear Rebecca

I am unclear as to whether you want the proposed surgery. I have a hernia, have had it for over ten years. No problem. Is yours a problem? Or are the doctors suggesting surgery because they worry that you may have a problem at some time in the future? Every MD I know has told me to have surgery because there might someday be a problem. No thank you, I say.

Meanwhile, if you do want the surgery (and I may have mine repaired someday): find the best surgeon, that is, the one who has done this repair the most. Toronto is the city to go to, they do the best hernia repairs in the world. (I have the name of the clinic at home if you want it.) This is the most important thing you can do to promote healing. Second, strengthen your immune system, as Justine has mentioned. Third, use ginger tea or eat candied ginger before going into surgery. Fourth, insist on being warm once you are out of surgery. These hints and more are collected in my book Breast Cancer Breast Health the Wise Woman Way, available through www.wisewomanbookshop.com

            Re: Do you want surgery?

Hello Susun,

It is an incisinal hernia in the abdomen and has grown in the last month or so. I see a surgeon on Tues. I would like the name of the surgeon in Toronto. I also have heard of a clinic in Miami, that only does hernia repair. Their reported rates of reoccurrence is low.

Thank you for the advice.

Warmly, Rebecca

"I was taught in the Scientific tradition. I've seen the Heroic tradition replace drugs with vitamins and herbs and intimidate people into 'cures.' But the self-similar conical spiral action of people using their natural genius of transformation and change is what creates negentropy on an individual and cosmic level. I had never seen a book strong enough to explore this dimension of healing until I found Healing Wise. I urge every MD and every "patient" to read it."
